Our First Class Trip

What would school be without a class trip or two or MORE!  There are lots of exciting things to see in and around Kingston and we hope to take advantage of that while we were up here!  However our first trip is not unique to just Kingston.....most cities and towns will have one or two or more!  But it's not everyday that you get your very own, hands on, personal tour of a Fire Hall! 

Through riding lessons we have made friends with a real live full-time FIREFIGHTER!  Rick and his wife Sherri board there horse, Fly, at the barn and also take lessons.  Rick was in Jacob's men's/boy's riding lesson and they became fast friends.  Sherri and Kaelyn enjoy each other's company and Kaelyn will often help to groom and tack Fly before a riding lesson. 

It was really cool to see the Fire Hall and check out every nook and cranny of a Fire Truck.  One of the best parts was being able to actually sit in the drivers seat and check out all the controls, turn the lights and sirens on etc.

We had a chance to see all the different parts of the fire truck and the different tools they had for different types of fires or emergencies.

Checking out all the gear was interesting.  We even had a demonstration of what happens when a fireman goes down.  If they are still for 30 sec there equipment will start making a very loud beeping sound so that they can be located by their fellow firemen.

Both Kaelyn and Jacob have taken the Junior Firefighters Pledge and have solemnly sworn to never play with matches, never start a fire without adult supervision and never run back into a fire to get their pets or their favorite blanky....

and NEVER is a very long time!

Oh and one last thing......we can't forget a picture of the most important piece of equipment at the firestations.......the BBQ....that's what we were told, anyway!!!
